Metal is Cut

The first piece of metal is cut. This is the official start of the building of the aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy.

Metal from Appledore Shipyard leaves on board a Russian ship heading to Rosythe. These are the supplies to begin work on the future of the Royal Navy.
Appledore Shipyard has won a £50million contract securing over 300 jobs until 2015

The Royal Navy announce the use of BAE's Artisan 3d radar.
"Selected by the UK’s Royal Navy for its Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers and Type 23 Frigates, the Artisan 3D radar surveillance solution has been developed from proven technology used in the Sampson multi-function phased array radar (fitted on the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyer) and the Commander SL ground based long-range radar in service with the Royal Air Force."
