Rolls-Royce delivers the first part of its £96 million contract.

A pair of Neptune stabilizing fins are delivered to BVT Surface Fleet shipyard in Govan where they will be built into the hull that is currently under construction.

Rolls-Royce is also supplying MT30 gas turbines, the most powerful available in the marine market today, as part of an integrated system which includes the giant carriers’ propellers and propeller shafts as well as rudders, bearings and low-voltage electrical systems.

Rumours and speculation begin about the potential mothballing of one of the future aircraft carriers.
